Experts discuss sustaining the San Pedro River

A panel of experts including CCRN members Holly Richter and Sara Ransom were invited to the Bisbee Royale Theater on May 10, 2019, to discuss the present and future health of the San Pedro River.

CCRN member Holly Richter, Arizona Water Projects director for the Nature Conservancy, was part of the panel that discussed the scientific perspective on water needs of the river, the diversity of species that live there, and the impact a loss of water would have on the rich riparian habitat. They also touched on the CCRN partnership and its recharge projects.

Sara Ransom, CCRN member and Cochise County attorney specializing in water issues, was part of the panel on the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA). They discussed the SPRNCA water adjudication trial, an ongoing case to decide how much water the Bureau of Land Management will receive as a federal water right for the needs of the conservation area, and the impacts of population growth on groundwater supply.
